Academic Leadership and Faculty Collaboration
Faculty and program leaders are selected to ensure excellence in teaching, scholarship, and ministry formation. Credential expectations are aligned with the level of instruction and the specific disciplines assigned.
Baccalaureate Programs (Bachelor's Level): Faculty teaching courses in theology, ministry, biblical studies, or related fields are generally expected to hold a master's degree in the discipline or a closely related area. A doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.Min., Th.D., or equivalent terminal degree) is preferred to support academic rigor and subject expertise. In exceptional cases, individuals with significant professional experience or specialized knowledge may serve, provided their qualifications are documented and appropriate to the courses they teach.
Master's Programs (Graduate Level): Faculty teaching in master's programs are expected to hold a doctoral degree with demonstrated expertise in their subject area. This ensures graduate-level standards and program integrity. Exceptions may be considered for individuals with substantial professional experience or recognized authority in the field, with documentation and program leadership approval.
Program Leadership and Academic Officers: Program directors, department heads, and senior academic administrators hold credentials appropriate to graduate theological education, alongside proven experience in administration, academic oversight, and leadership.
Doctoral Programs: Dissertation chairs and standing doctoral faculty combine terminal degrees with advanced scholarship, substantial professional experience in ministry or higher education, and, where applicable, evidence of ongoing scholarly or professional contributions. This ensures that doctoral candidates receive mentorship grounded in both academic rigor and practical ministry experience.
Ministry Leadership: Ordained pastors, bishops, and other recognized ecclesial leaders may contribute to spiritual formation, policy review, instruction, or advisory roles, helping maintain accountability to the Church and to service within congregational and broader ministry contexts.
